Meta Under Scrutiny Again for Violating the DSA Compliance

Recently, Meta came under fire for breaching DSA compliance with its platforms, Facebook and Instagram.

In a proactive move, the EU Commission has investigated Meta’s actions, signaling its commitment to robust data protection. The reason behind all this chaos is that the algorithms on both of Meta’s platforms are causing a ‘rabbit-hole effect’ among younger users, resulting in behavioral addiction. Another factor causing the concerns is Meta’s verification methods and age verifications.

Here’s the statement released by the executive vice president on this matter:

“Today, we are taking another step to ensure safety for young online users. With the Digital Services Act, we established rules that can protect minors when they interact online. We have concerns that Facebook and Instagram may stimulate behavioral addiction and that the methods of age verification that Meta has put in place for their services are not adequate. And will now carry on an in-depth investigation. We want to protect young people’s mental and physical health.” – Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President
