The word byte refers to the unit of digital information in computer storage and processing. A byte consists of 8 digits, each of which has 0 or 1. The size of the byte is the smallest and is used to express large quantities of data. Mostly, the size of the byte is equal to 8 smaller units called bits. The size of the byte is dependent on your system’s hardware.

Some programming languages also use bytes as a data type. For instance, languages like C and C++ use bytes as a data type and define it as the addressable unit for data storage. A byte is denoted by ‘B’.
