#ChampsTalk 1. Since May 2021, Google has placed their expectations of our websites into an actual set of rules. And they are great reminders for us! Core Vitals focus on 3 UX items: loading time, interactivity, and page stability.

#ChampsTalk 2 If we want our website to be found in organic search, we have a lot to consider. When we build our sites, they should always be fast, accessible, and usable. Core Vitals are just best practice with another name.

#ChampsTalk 3 Core Vitals aside, always address general user fundamentals on your sites. If we work with prebuilt themes, they should be light. Only use what we need. Websites aren’t movies. They are there to solve a problem. People might go to your site and only stay 45 seconds.

#ChampsTalk 4 Websites should load quickly. Max 2 seconds. Once loaded we want to click. So your site shouldn’t move after loading. BUT If website 1 is faster than website 2 but 2 is more relevant to the search query, website 2 will still outrank website 1.

#ChampsTalk 5 The Core Vitals are: Largest Contentful Paint, First Input Delay (total blocking time), and Cumulative Layout Shift. In a nutshell it is a check of when is our website visible (loaded), usable (clickable), and stable (not moving). Kind of important.

#ChampsTalk 6 I was using Lighthouse, the page speed check, but now I use https://t.co/a9hJbFtokv to measure. There are plugins available, but I wouldn’t weigh your site down with these. That would be counterproductive :o) Not a paid plug

#ChampsTalk 7 Tech can scare us off. All these tools! Core Vitals help keep us honest. They police our design and layout for one. For SEO, they give us a sense of how people experience our website. SEO is a Google consideration, so if Google is happy then so will our SEO results!

Heavy them? Heavy images? Content such as fonts, JS and other things not locally served? It could be a few things AS WELL as the speed of the carrier :o)

Oh don't gget me started about page builders! LOL. Ahem. Some fast websites use page builders, some slow ones do. It's all about how you use and build with them. Even a bicycle can faster than a car depending on who is driving ;o)

I think the same things we should consider without CWV. I think its about a website that loads quickly and gives us the solution to our problem. It's very much about context. The rules are different but the goal is the same.

I am making so many websites just with the Gutenburg, together with maybe Neve as a theme. If pushed perhaps the Otter plugin for extra blocks. But mostly just vanilla Gutenburg :o)
