Direct Message

[ dai-rekt meh-suh-juh ]

Direct Message or ‘DM’ in the digital world stands for private communication between social media users through a social platform. This communication can be in the form of a textual, audio, video, or graphical format, which is visible only to the sender and the recipient.

For direct messages, social platforms have a specific inbox created where DM from your followers falls directly in access. At the same time, social platforms filter out messages from non-followers in a separate inbox.
Different social media platforms have a different sets of rules for direct messaging.

Example

Nike runners are on sale on Instagram, but you are not sure the right size is the best fit. The easiest way to inquire is to drop a polite, direct message to Nike’s Instagram account for their shoe size chart and other queries.
